These are unique and uncertain times for travelers, but you can find peace of mind knowing that your dedicated travel professional is standing by to provide you with expert advice and support.
New COVID-19 Policy for Re-Entry into the United States
Effective January 26, 2021, the United States will require that all air passengers entering the country provide a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding their flight as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We are working closely with our travel supplier partners including hotels, airlines, and ground transportation operators to help provide you with options for your travel plans. We will be communicating the most up to date information as we receive it on this page, so please check back frequently for updates. In the meantime, please be sure to review the CDC FAQ’s regarding this new policy.
If you have a trip booked or are planning to travel outside of the United States within the next 30-60 days, please know we are prioritizing customers with upcoming bookings based on departure date, and thank you in advance for your patience as we work through all impacted travelers. We are currently experiencing an extremely high call volume as we navigate through the newly announced policy with our customers.
Our Travel Consultants are available to assist you, should you have questions regarding your upcoming travel, and they are just a phone call away—easily accessible with no hold times. Most of our hotel partners, cruise line partners, tour operator partners, and all major airlines have introduced new flexible change and cancellation policies regarding upcoming trips. Each trip is unique and each has its own policies that you need to be aware of, so please contact your travel consultant if you have an upcoming booking that you would like to discuss.
Separately, Liberty Travel launched Peace of Mind Packages. Built in collaboration with more than a dozen hotel partners and major U.S. airlines, our Peace of Mind Packages provide you with relaxed change and cancellation polices for NEW bookings to a variety of destinations with travel available through the rest of the year. There are some great travel deals out in the market currently and these packages will give you the peace of mind you might be looking for, in case your plans need to be changed.
Insurance Coverage
We always encourage customers to purchase travel insurance, regardless of the circumstance. Each travel insurance policy is different and can have exclusions in the case of an epidemic, such as COVID-19. There are policies in the market that will protect customers for cancellation for “any reason” or “any time,” and these policies have a broader range of reasons a customer can cancel and receive a percentage of their trip’s cost back. It is critically important that as a traveler you understand the exclusions of the policies you are buying; most plans, including Cancel Anytime plans, contain general exclusions from coverage for any loss directly or indirectly due to any loss, condition, or event that was known or foreseeable when the plan was purchased, or due to an epidemic.
The rapid and vast spread of the virus will likely trigger new travel disruptions and policy changes as governments and airlines take extraordinary steps to limit the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and provide you with periodic updates.
Applying For or Renewing Your Passport
If you need to apply for or renew your U.S. passport for international travel, please read the Department of State's current advisory on passport operations in response to COVID-19. Because of public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, U.S. passport operations are extremely limited. According to the Department of State, if you apply or renew now, you will experience significant delays of several months to receive your U.S. passport and the return of your citizenship evidence documents (such as birth certificates or naturalization certificates).
US Department of State Global Level 4 Health Advisory Lifted
The US State Department has lifted their Global Level 4 “Do Not Travel” Advisory that was put in place on Thursday, March 19th. In its place, the State Department is returning to its previous system of country-level advisories (click for more info). The US State Department is continuing to recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution when traveling abroad due to the ongoing and fluid nature of the pandemic.
